World Skills Competition - 2024 Overview

The World Skills Competition is one of the largest skill competitions globally, organized every two years since 1950 in Switzerland. It has grown into an international movement that brings nations together with the aim of showcasing innovative practices, skills aligned with trade and industry demands, and collaborative initiatives. This competition is recognized internationally in the field of skills development, symbolizing a prestigious platform. The 47th edition of the competition will be held from September 10-15, 2024, in Lyon, France, where participants from various Indian states will display their advanced skills.

Bihar's Journey and Success in This Competition

The state of Bihar has established its strong presence in this competition, with young participants excelling at both regional and national levels and proudly representing India at the international stage. Bihar has been actively participating in the national-level competitions since 2017. In this year's national competition, Bihar has achieved notable success in 13 disciplines, including 3 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze, and 6 medallions of excellence. All gold medalists will represent India in Lyon, France. For this, the Bihar Skill Development Mission is providing resources and support, along with 512 hours of training for participants preparing for the national competition.

Future Pathway

  • The winners of the three gold medals in the national competition will represent India in the World Skills Competition, to be held in Lyon, France, in September 2024.
  • In addition, one gold medalist will represent India in the Asia Skills Competition, which will take place in Taiwan in June 2024.
  • On World Youth Skills Day, scheduled for July 15, 2024, the state-level competition winners and 13 national winners will be honored by the State Government.
  • For the 48th World Skills Competition in 2026, efforts are being made to train Bihar's participants at the Mega Skill Center to ensure Bihar and India leave a lasting impression on the international stage.
